The Citizens Advice service helps people resolve their legal, money and other problems by providing free, independent and confidential advice, and by influencing policymakers.

Every Citizens Advice Bureau is a registered charity reliant on trained volunteers and funds to provide these vital services for local communities.

Benefits and tax credits

Citizens Advice regularly publishes evidence reports and briefings of CAB clients' problems. We use this evidence to campaign for changes in policies and services.

Social security is the second largest problem area for Citizens Advice Bureaux dealt with more over 1.5 million new problems in 2007/08. Clients seek assistance with establishing eligibility, making benefit claims, chasing applications progress and appealing against decisions.
